Who can benefit from Massage?
Everyone – Young, old and all in between. Perhaps you awoke with a stiff neck, you spend too much time in front of a computer, or you just need to relax and unwind. Although certain medical conditions preclude full-body massage, many conditions are much improved with therapeutic massage! A conversation with the qualified therapist is all that is necessary to rule out any issues, and work on a plan to benefit you specifically.

I’m a reasonably healthy, active person without physical problems. Why would I consider getting a therapeutic massage?  
To be even healthier! Massage helps to increase your body awareness, nourishes your muscles, helps prevent illness, and improves the quality of your life. Massage also relieves everyday stress, as well as more extreme stress from times of pressure or crisis. Receivers of regular massage are known to be calmer, more centered and thus more, it feels wonderful!

Is it beneficial to receive massage on a regular basis?
The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative. From one session to the next, you are able to relax more and more as the chronic patterns of stress in the body are released. These changes are readily felt in your day to day life as well.

How does massage work?
Massage can help unwind tight muscles and re-align deeper layers of soft connective tissue. Various techniques are used to reach adhesions(aka: knots) that block circulation and cause inflammation. Massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

Deep tissue massage is one of the best ways to treat strained muscles due to over exertion from sports, laborious work and rigorous recreational activities that lead to chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness and sore shoulders. Deep tissue massage will assist with the repair of soft tissue and restore blood flow therefore flushing out painful toxins.

What can I expect for my first massage?
When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, you will be asked to complete a brief confidential questionnaire regarding your current physical condition, medical history and areas of pain or tightness. This allows each session to be customized to each individual client’s needs and goals.  

You will be asked to undress in private and drape yourself with a sheet & blanket provided by the therapist. Most massage therapist prefer that the client be free of all restrictive clothing and jewelry’ however, your comfort is of the utmost importance, and boundaries set by you are respected at all times. You will be fully draped at all times during the massage; the therapist will uncover only that part of your body being massaged, insuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

You can expect a peaceful and comfortable environment for the massage. For the period of time agreed upon, you’ll have the unique experience of having all of your muscles kneaded in a full-body massage, or only in specific areas in the case of a session oriented to a localized injury, pain or tightness.

Does the client have any responsibilities during the massage?
Only to have provided accurate health information and to report discomfort of any kind. Your sessions should be free of distractions, and you should speak up if you experience any-whether from body or room temperature, the type or volume of the music- your experience should be a positive one in every way. Also, it’s imperative to communicate regarding the pressure of the massage. During your treatment let your therapist know if you feel any discomfort or would like special attention on a particular area. Everyone is different and you should always alert your therapist if you want the pressure dialed up or down!
